Virtual exhibitions; Islamic art in the Mediterranean


TUNIS, April 18 (TAP) - the great Islamic dynasties of the Mediterranean are the focus of 18 virtual exhibitions " discovering the Islamic art in the Mediterranean, " which places emphasis on the artistic and cultural heritage of this region.

These exhibitions were presented, on Wednesday, at the premises of the National Library in Tunis, with attendance of some coordinators of this project, on the occasion of its simultaneous inauguration in 13 other Mediterranean countries. This project, which is co-ordinated by "Musee sans frontieres," put the stress on 244 monuments and 603 items from 40 museums and 14 countries.

The virtual exhibitions, available in eight languages, also tackles such themes as figurative art, Arab calligraphy, women's position, geometrical decoration and water, flower and plant decoration.

The project is financed by the European Commission's Euromed heritage programme. Its creation took nearly twelve years, with the contribution of more than 300 collaborators among experts and cultural institutions.
